Juan Esteban Cano is a commercial real estate finance and development professional based in San Antonio, Texas. His company, Cano Development, is a fully integrated commercial real estate development firm focused on urban infill development projects across multiple product types throughout Central Texas. Cano Development also offers third party independent consulting, project management and owner's representative services to the private and public sector.
Juan’s core mission is for the creation of iconic communities of opportunity - places that meld responsible land use and the equitable treatment of people, thus leaving a lasting, positive economic and social impact on the neighborhoods where they are built. His company ethos is simple - Do Well by Doing Good.
Prior to founding Cano Development, Juan was engaged by the Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation to assist in creating and managing the public private partnership (P3) process and creating a leasing strategy for this multiphase master planned community. Hemisfair’s development plans call for over one million square feet of mixed-use real estate on 40+ acres of land in the core of downtown San Antonio, Texas, representing an over $800 million public-private investment.
Prior to Hemisfair, Juan was in charge of international investor relations, capital markets, acquisitions and development for Brass Real Estate Funds, where he supported the project team through all aspects of closing over $120 million in capital transactions. Juan has been involved in all phases of the commercial real estate lifecycle to include acquisitions and dispositions, raising debt and equity, as well as the day-to-day oversight of the Central Texas EB-5 Regional Center.
Juan was born in Medellin, Colombia and raised in the San Francisco bay area before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. As a former United States Marine, the importance of servant leadership, grit and adaptability to obstacles are at the core of Juan’s management style. Working in Beijing, China and liaising with multiple other world cities, has afforded Juan the fortune of amassing business contacts globally. This international breadth of experience allows him to analyze deals and opportunities with a profound understanding and perspective. Juan holds degrees in Real Estate Finance and Development, and International Management from the School of Business at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). He is also an adjunct lecturer and mentor for the UTSA graduate school of commercial real estate finance and development and is fluent in English, Spanish and conversational in Mandarin Chinese.
Outside of work, Juan serves on multiple non-profit boards for the Urban Land Institute, Community Housing Resource Partners, Leadership San Antonio, and the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on the Real Estate Council of San Antonio’s Governmental Affairs committees. He is an avid world traveler, adventure motorcyclist and the single father to two beautiful Siberian Huskies.
